COURSE INTRODUCTION

Over the past decade, lung ultrasound has evolved from an emerging technique into an essential tool at the bedside of neonatal patients. Its non-invasive nature, the absence of radiation, the real-time results and the high diagnostic accuracy it allows in clinical decision support make it particularly suitable for fragile neonatal patients.

Today, lung ultrasound is positioning itself as a key trend in modern neonatology. Its growing adoption reflects a major shift in how respiratory conditions in neonates are assessed and managed.

This online course provides a practical and structured introduction to neonatal lung ultrasound.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Tuesday, April 7 - 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM (CET)

  • Part 1: Key Concepts

Part 1 focuses on the fundamentals of neonatal lung ultrasound. You will learn how to perform a complete and structured examination by following a scanning protocol and understand how identify normal and pathological lung patterns. Special emphasis is placed on recognizing and analyzing key anatomical structures and ultrasound artifacts to support accurate clinical interpretation and diagnosis.

Thursday, April 23 - 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM (CET)

  • Part 2: Clinical Applications (RDS, surfactant administration, …)

Part 2 moves into clinical application, demonstrating how lung ultrasound can be effectively used to diagnose common neonatal respiratory conditions, including Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn (TTN), Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). This section also explores how lung ultrasound can guide and optimize surfactant administration, supporting timely and individualized therapeutic decisions.
